What is a travel eSIM?
A travel eSIM is a downloadable SIM profile for a compatible phone. With a prepaid data plan installed, you can use maps, messaging and other apps abroad while your physical SIM stays in the phone.
Can I keep my usual phone number?
Usually yes, if your phone can run a physical SIM and an eSIM at the same time. Set the travel eSIM as your data line and turn data roaming off on your home SIM. Calls and SMS through your regular carrier are still billed by that carrier.
When should I install my eSIM?
Install while you're on reliable Wi-Fi, ideally before you leave. Read the plan's activation notes first, because when its validity window starts can vary by plan.
How much data will I need?
Maps and messaging use far less data than streaming video, uploads or tethering a laptop. Size the plan to your whole trip, and offload big downloads and backups to Wi-Fi.
Can I share my data with a hotspot?
Check the destination page for hotspot details. Where the plan and your phone allow tethering, every connected device draws from the same allowance.
Does an eSIM include calls and texts?
No. These are data-only plans with no local phone number, standard voice calls or SMS. You can still use internet messaging and calling apps over the data allowance.
