Frequently asked questions.
Answers to common setup and buying questions.
How do I pick the right Hungary data plan?
For a short vacation, the cheapest listed option is 1 GB for 7 days at €0.27, which suits light browsing when Wi-Fi is around. There is no 1 day plan, so even a quick stop buys the same 7 days. All three 3 GB plans cost the same, €1.68, with 7, 15 or 30 days to pick from. A 5 GB allowance is €2.49 for 7 days or €2.68 for 30 days, a step up for maps and photo uploads. If you plan to share a data hotspot or stream, 10 GB for 30 days at €5.16 is a common choice. The best value depends on your daily use and trip length, not just the lowest price. These are prepaid one-off plans rather than a monthly contract, but a search for no contract still means reading the purchase terms before you buy.
Does my data reset each day?
Each plan is a fixed total allowance for its stated validity, not a daily refill. The options are 1, 3, 5, 10, 20 and 50 GB, and streaming YouTube counts against that same total. 30 days is close to one month but is not a calendar month. The 50 GB plan lasts 180 days and costs €25.10; even that is a finite allowance, not unlimited service.
Which mobile network operators does the Hungary eSIM connect to?
Listed networks: Yettel Hungary, One Hungary. Connects to 4G/5G where the network offers it. Speeds and signal vary with your phone, location and network conditions.
Can I use my plan as a hotspot for a laptop?
The listed networks support hotspot. Any device you connect draws from the same data allowance. The data hotspot is one of the plan's features, so anything you share counts against the same balance. Pause automatic updates and cloud backups on the connected device if you need to hold data back for the trip.
Is my phone able to run this eSIM?
Check that your exact phone model and regional variant support eSIM and that the phone is network unlocked; only eSIM-compatible phones will work. The compatibility guide lists the manufacturer steps for iOS and Android. On a supported iPhone, installation may use Add eSIM or a supplied QR code for the eSIM card, so follow the method sent with your plan.
Should I set up the eSIM before I travel?
Install over reliable Wi-Fi and save the instructions offline. Read the supplied activation conditions before you enable the line; installation and the start of validity may be separate events, and the exact trigger is not confirmed. Some sellers advertise instant installation, but a QR code still needs a working connection to download. Once you land, set the travel eSIM as the mobile data line and follow its data-roaming instructions.
Will I get a Hungarian phone number with this eSIM?
These are data-only plans with no local phone number, ordinary calls or SMS. Apps like WhatsApp can run online over the internet connection instead. Bank verification texts and SMS ticket purchases still need a real phone line, and leaving your regular SIM active can trigger home-carrier roaming charges.
Does the eSIM cover neighboring countries?
These plans cover Hungary only. A neighbouring country is not included just because it sits in the same region. Check the included-country list for every leg of your itinerary before you cross a border.
How do I avoid roaming charges on my primary SIM?
Set the travel eSIM as the mobile data line, turn off automatic mobile-data switching and keep data roaming off on your regular SIM. Apply any roaming setting the travel eSIM needs only to that line. Voice and SMS on your home number still follow your home carrier's terms.
What should I do if I can't connect to the internet?
First confirm you are in Hungary, the line is enabled and set as the data line, and the allowance and validity are still active. Follow the supplied roaming and APN settings, then toggle airplane mode briefly or restart. If reception is poor, try another spot, and keep the profile installed while service quality is checked.
Can I add more data or get my money back?
Read the purchase conditions for top up options, profile reuse and refund eligibility before you buy. Buying another plan does not automatically extend the current one or carry over unused data. Keep your order reference and installation details when you ask for help, and do not delete the profile before you get instructions.
Using your eSIM in Hungary
Prepaid data for a Hungary trip
Sort the airport transfer in Budapest first, then keep bookings and directions in reach for a few days at Lake Balaton. For a tourist on a city break or a longer holiday, a virtual sim card like this one puts data on a compatible phone without swapping out a physical SIM.
On a short Budapest visit, 1 GB for 7 days at €0.27 handles light browsing when Wi-Fi is around. PikoeSIM offers all three 3 GB options at the same price, €1.68, with a choice of 7, 15, or 30 days. A 5 GB allowance costs €2.49 for 7 days or €2.68 for 30 days; check that the validity outlasts your final transfer. There is no option for 14 days; the plan valid for 15 days is the closest for a trip of 2 weeks. For one day, even the 7-day plan is longer than needed, but it is the shortest prepaid offer.
On a longer trip, weigh 10 GB or 20 GB for 30 days against 50 GB for 180 days. Pricing scales with the allowance, which is one fixed total for the whole validity and shared with any hotspot devices; it does not reset each day. The best price per gigabyte sits with the larger plans, but that is affordable only if you actually use the data.
City to lakeshore coverage
Listed networks: Yettel Hungary, One Hungary. Connects to 4G/5G where the network offers it. Speeds and signal vary with your phone, location and network conditions. Reception changes between Budapest streets and Balaton villages, and can drop inside buildings, on transport or behind hills. No single allowance promises the best coverage everywhere; signal quality follows the network, not the plan size. Save your lakeside address and return connection before you leave a spot with reliable coverage.

Then stay awhile.Budapest, Hungary
Budapest: check the 100E airport ticket rules.
BKK's 100E Airport Express runs between Liszt Ferenc International Airport and central Budapest. Compare the stops with your accommodation before boarding, then save the walking or onward transit directions for the final part of the arrival.
The 100E uses a separate airport ticket that does not allow transfers to other lines. With a valid pass there is a cheaper add-on option, so check BKK's current airport-ticket page rather than assuming an ordinary city ticket will do. Open BudapestGO or the official page online and follow the validation steps for the ticket you bought.
For a Danube walk, share the exact bank and landmark where you plan to meet. A pin dropped on the far side of the river can mean a longer walk than the map suggests. Save your host's entrance instructions before you head back late.
Save before you goThe airport ticket instructions, your arrival stop and the street entrance to your accommodation.
Tihany: pin the exact stop, not the whole lake.
Tihany is a peninsula on Lake Balaton, home to the Benedictine Abbey of Tihany. Work out whether you are heading to the village, an attraction entrance or your accommodation before you ask a driver or host for directions; a pin labelled just Lake Balaton is far too broad.
Check the abbey's current opening and ticketing details before you travel. Save your booking, parking spot or planned arrival stop and the route between them, and keep a way back saved offline if your day takes you away from the built-up area.
Lake photos, video calls and tethering a laptop all draw from the same allowance; if a family shares one phone's connection, every extra device uses that same balance. Leave full photo backups for Wi-Fi and download the local map before you set out. The plan keeps working here where a supported network reaches, but a bigger allowance does not guarantee a signal at every viewpoint.
Save before you goThe exact Tihany stop, a local map and the agreed route back to your accommodation.
