Frequently asked questions.
Answers to common setup and buying questions.
How do I pick the right Mali plan for my trip?
Start with two recommendations: match the validity to your dates and save video for Wi-Fi. The 1 GB, 7-day plan at €3.39 is the cheapest entry for light messaging with occasional directions. The 30-day data plans offer 3 GB, 5 GB, 10 GB or 20 GB, so for a vacation of 2 weeks or 14 days or more, a 30-day plan avoids the expiry risk of a 7-day plan. The best price for you is the plan that covers your full trip without unused days; it is not always the lowest sticker. Whether any option feels affordable depends on your whole travel budget.
What network does this Mali eSIM connect to?
Listed networks: Orange Mali. Connects to 4G/LTE where available. 5G is not confirmed on this plan. Speeds and signal vary with your phone, location and network conditions. Only one operator is listed, so there is no second network to fall back on if a spot is weak, and we do not claim the best coverage for the country. Signal quality varies with your phone and location.
Will my phone work with these eSIM plans?
Your phone needs eSIM support and must be network unlocked, whether it runs Android or iOS. Check the exact model and regional version in the compatibility guide. On an iPhone, open Settings, tap General, then About, and look for "No SIM Restrictions" next to Carrier Lock; a model that supports eSIM is not automatically unlocked. Android phones vary by model and region, so confirm yours before you buy.
When do I need to install and activate the eSIM?
Install on reliable Wi-Fi and save the supplied instructions offline, including the QR code. Follow the activation steps for your order, because installation and the start of validity are not necessarily the same event, and the trigger depends on the plan instructions. There is no guarantee of instant installation, so leave time before departure. In Mali, enable the travel line and select it for mobile data.
Can I use my regular number and messaging apps with this eSIM?
You keep your existing messaging-app account, such as WhatsApp, and use this eSIM for internet. The plan includes no standard calls, SMS or local phone number, so anything tied to your home number still relies on your regular SIM and carrier. Check its charges before you leave that line enabled.
Can I tether my laptop to the Mali eSIM?
The listed networks support hotspot. Any device you connect draws from the same data allowance. Pause system updates, cloud backups and video downloads before you share the connection, whether by tethering or the data hotspot.
Does the data allowance reset each day or month?
No. Each allowance is the total for its full validity period, whether that is 7 days or 30 days, and it does not refresh daily. It is also not a monthly subscription: 30 days is roughly one month, but it is a fixed, prepaid block. Search terms like "no contract" describe paying once; check the purchase terms to confirm nothing renews automatically.
Is this plan usable in other countries besides Mali?
These plans cover Mali only. The operator's brand or a regional name does not add another country, so arrange separate coverage for any onward destination or transit stop.
Can I buy extra data or extend the validity?
You can buy another available plan, but do not assume a new purchase extends the existing validity or carries over unused data. Top up is not a confirmed feature here, so check the options and instructions supplied with your order before relying on it.
What should I do if the eSIM won't connect?
Check that you are in Mali, the line is enabled and selected for mobile data, and that data and validity remain. Apply the supplied roaming and APN settings to the travel line, using whatever value came with your order rather than guessing one. Try airplane mode for a few seconds or restart the phone, and move if reception is weak. Keep the profile installed and contact support with your order reference, location and phone model if it still fails.
How can I prevent roaming charges on my home SIM?
Turn off automatic mobile-data switching and keep data roaming disabled on your regular SIM. Apply any roaming setting the travel plan needs only to that eSIM. Ordinary calls and texts on your home line may still trigger charges.
What support and refund details should I confirm before buying?
Keep your order reference and installation details when asking for help. Read the purchase conditions for refund eligibility, especially after activation or data use, and keep the installed eSIM while a connection problem is investigated.
Using your eSIM across Mali
Prepaid data for your Mali trip
A Mali eSIM card installs digitally on a compatible unlocked phone as a virtual SIM card, so you can buy online and skip the airport queue for a physical SIM. The plans give you internet data only: there is no local phone number, and ordinary calls and texts are not included. Your contacts will need a messaging or calling app such as WhatsApp.
The 1 GB, 7-day plan costs €3.39 and is the cheapest entry for light messaging if you lean on Wi-Fi for bigger files. The 30-day data plans offer 3 GB, 5 GB, 10 GB or 20 GB, which helps with attachments, app calls and tethering; streaming YouTube or other video will consume data quickly. Pricing is per plan, not per day, so compare the total against your trip length. The best value depends on how much data you actually need and how many days you will be in Mali, not on the lowest price alone; a bigger allowance does not stretch the validity or widen the network.
One operator. Keep a backup.
Listed networks: Orange Mali. Connects to 4G/LTE where available. 5G is not confirmed on this plan. Speeds and signal vary with your phone, location and network conditions. Save addresses and contact details offline before you set off.

Stay online.Bamako, Mali
Bamako: sort the airport pickup before you board.
Landing at Bamako's Modibo Keïta–Sénou airport, keep your flight reference, accommodation address and collection instructions in one place. Send the flight number to whoever is receiving you, then agree exactly who meets you and where. Download those messages before boarding so the pickup never depends on your first mobile connection.
Check the airline directly for flight changes. You can use data to pull an updated booking or message the person collecting you, but an internet-only plan cannot place a normal phone call to a driver. Arrange a second way to reach your contact before you leave.
As checked on 8 October 2026, FCDO advises against all travel to Mali, including the capital. Read the current advice before arranging the journey; a working eSIM does not make an airport transfer or onward road safe.
Save before you goFlight reference, the receiving contact's details and the agreed pickup instructions, plus a backup way to reach them.
Bamako: keep the exact entrance saved on your phone.
For a family visit or work appointment in Bamako, ask for the building entrance and a nearby landmark as well as the address. Send those details to your arranged driver before setting off. A saved map helps you recognise the destination, but it cannot tell you whether a route is safe that day.
FCDO reports frequent police checkpoints in Bamako and difficult road conditions during the rainy season from June to October. Follow current local arrangements and carry the required identification; a screenshot of an appointment is context, not a replacement for travel documents.
Keep essential messages available offline and charge your phone before any transfer. For a longer stay, the 30-day options give a larger total data allowance, but they do not improve reception or replace the need for a separate communications plan.
