Frequently asked questions.
Answers to common setup and buying questions.
How do I pick between the Rwanda data plans?
Occasional maps and messages fit the 1 GB plan for 7 days at €3.49, which is the cheapest option among the listed data plans. There is no 1 day plan; a one-day trip still means buying the 7-day option. If your stay is 2 weeks (14 days) or longer, a 7-day plan will run out of validity, so compare the 30-day options from 3 GB up to 20 GB. The best value among those depends on your usage, and our recommendations start from trip length plus data hotspot use, video calls and YouTube.
Which network does the eSIM connect to?
Listed networks: Tigo Rwanda. Connects to 4G/LTE where available. 5G is not confirmed on this plan. Speeds and signal vary with your phone, location and network conditions. That's the operator your eSIM uses, and its coverage is what matters along your route. No plan can promise best coverage everywhere, since signal depends on your location, your phone and how busy the network is at that moment.
Will this eSIM work on my phone?
Only eSIM-compatible phones that are network unlocked will work, so check your exact model and where it was sold. On iPhone, look for Add eSIM in the mobile settings and 'No SIM Restrictions' under Settings, General, About. On Android, find the eSIM option in the network settings. There's no physical eSIM card to collect, and the compatibility guide links to the iOS and Android steps from each maker.
When do I install and activate the eSIM?
Install over reliable Wi-Fi and keep the instructions that come with your order, including any QR code steps. Follow the activation steps for your purchase, because installing a profile doesn't necessarily start the validity clock. Don't treat 'instant installation' as a speed guarantee; the process still needs a connection and a compatible phone. On arrival, switch on the travel line and set it as your mobile data source.
Can I get calls or bank texts on this plan?
No. This is a data-only service with no local phone number and no ordinary calls or SMS. Apps such as WhatsApp can use the plan's internet connection instead. Bank text messages still depend on your regular SIM and your home carrier, so check that carrier's charges before leaving the line switched on.
Can I share the data with a laptop?
The listed networks support hotspot. Any device you connect draws from the same data allowance. Tethering your laptop means its automatic updates and cloud backups also eat into the same allowance, so pause those before you share the connection.
Does it cover anywhere beyond Rwanda?
No. These offers cover Rwanda only, so buy a separate plan for each country you visit next. A shared network brand or a regional route doesn't widen this plan's territory.
Does the data reset each day?
No. 1 GB for 7 days, and 3 GB, 5 GB, 10 GB and 20 GB for 30 days. The allowance is shared across the full validity and any devices on your data hotspot. Thirty days is a fixed window, not always one month on the calendar, and it's not a monthly subscription. Unused data doesn't guarantee an extension past the plan's expiry.
What happens if I run out of data?
Check what your order offers before assuming a top up exists, and read the purchase terms rather than relying on 'no contract' wording in a search result. We can't promise the best price, but comparing the listed pricing and each plan's features helps before you buy. A separate purchase may come with its own installation and validity rules, so don't count on it extending the old plan or carrying over leftover data.
What do I check if there's no internet?
Check you're in Rwanda, that the plan still has data and validity left, and that the eSIM is enabled and selected for mobile data. Apply the supplied roaming and APN settings to that line. Connection quality also varies by location, so try airplane mode for a moment or restart the phone, then test somewhere else. Keep the profile installed while you contact support.
How do I stop my home SIM from roaming?
Turn off data roaming on your regular SIM and switch off automatic mobile-data switching. Set the travel eSIM as your internet line. Any roaming setting the travel line needs applies to that line alone; calls and texts on your home line still follow your home carrier's terms.
What do I keep for support or a refund request?
Keep your order reference, device model and installation details. For a connection problem, note your location and any error message. Read the purchase conditions before ordering, because installation, activation or unused data don't by themselves guarantee a refund.
