Malawi 20GB eSIM

When comparing these data plans, the best value depends on how much data you'll actually use, not the price alone, and we won't claim one plan has the best price for every trip. The 1 GB plan at €3.59 is the cheapest and covers 7 days for a short stay, while 3 GB at €10.39, 5 GB at €17.09, 10 GB and 20 GB all run 30 days. A trip of 14 days (2 weeks) fits the 30-day plans; there's no 1 day or one day option here. Whether a plan is affordable depends on your total trip cost, not just the per-gigabyte price. As general recommendations, download maps over Wi-Fi and compare pricing before you buy. The operator offers 4G/LTE data, but speed and signal quality vary by location.

Listed networks: Airtel Malawi. Connects to 4G/LTE where available. 5G is not confirmed on this plan. Speeds and signal vary with your phone, location and network conditions.

Use a network-unlocked phone that supports eSIM. Check the exact model and regional variant, not just the brand: compatible phones vary by year and region. On an iPhone running iOS, look for Add eSIM in mobile settings and No SIM Restrictions under Settings → General → About; on Android, open Settings → Network & internet → SIMs. This is a virtual sim card, so there's no physical SIM to swap.

Install over dependable Wi-Fi before you fly, not on weak airport Wi-Fi after you land. The eSIM card is digital, so you add a profile rather than a physical SIM. Follow the QR code or app steps supplied with your plan and keep them offline. Don't count on instant installation: installing the profile is not necessarily what starts its validity, so follow the activation instructions for when the clock begins. In Malawi, enable the travel line and select it for mobile data.

These plans provide internet data without a local phone number, ordinary voice calls or SMS. Use WhatsApp and other messaging apps over the data connection instead; the trade-off is fewer features than a full local SIM with a number. Bank texts still depend on your regular SIM, home carrier and bank, so check any charges for keeping that line enabled.

The listed networks support hotspot. Any device you connect draws from the same data allowance. Any device you connect draws from the same allowance, so tethering a laptop on a data hotspot uses the plan's total. Pause automatic updates and large backups first; streaming YouTube over a hotspot will drain a small allowance quickly.

No. 1 GB runs 7 days, and 3 GB, 5 GB, 10 GB or 20 GB runs 30 days. Each is a fixed total for that validity, not a daily allocation and not an unlimited plan. Thirty days is roughly one month but not a calendar monthly period, and there's no monthly subscription to renew.

This plan works in Malawi only. Zambia, Mozambique and Tanzania are not covered, so a lake crossing into a neighbouring country won't keep your data working.

Check that you're in Malawi, the travel line is enabled and selected for mobile data, and the plan still has data and validity remaining. Apply the supplied roaming and APN settings to the travel line, then try airplane mode briefly or restart. If signal is weak, move to another spot. Keep the profile installed and contact the seller's service team with your device model, location and order reference.

Set the travel eSIM as the data line, turn off automatic data switching, and keep data roaming disabled on your home SIM. Apply any roaming or APN settings required by these data plans only to the travel line. Standard calls and texts on your home number may still incur charges.

Check the purchase conditions and options supplied with your order before relying on a top up, extension or refund. A separate plan purchase doesn't automatically extend an existing profile or transfer its unused data, and a 'no contract' label is something to confirm in the terms rather than assume. Keep your order reference and installation details when contacting customer service, and avoid deleting the profile while a connection issue is open.
